Do you dream of experiencing the Norwegian winter? No stress, no pressure, just fun: Our beginner's cross-country skiing course is your perfect introduction to the Norwegian national sport!
Join us in Lillehammer and discover the joy of gliding on snow in a relaxed and supportive setting. When you arrive, you’ll receive a short introduction to SWIG and Norway’s proud ski traditions before getting fitted with your equipment and starting the course.
After the session, we gather for a Norwegian snack and warm drinks, followed by a small diploma ceremony. And of course, there will be plenty of opportunities for photos to remember your first time on skis.
What you’ll experience
Comprehensive Introduction
Our English-speaking instructors are experts at teaching the basics. You'll learn everything from how to put on your skis to simple techniques for gliding, turning, and braking.
We focus on classic cross-country skiing, the most common style in Norway.
Magical Surroundings
The Lillehammer area is considered one of the best destinations in the world for cross-country skiing and the history of the 1994 Winter Olympics is still alive.
Here you can learn skiing while enjoying beautiful winter landscapes, surrounded by a rich skiing history that inspires.
Equipment Included
Forget about buying or renting equipment! We provide everything you need: skis, poles, and boots in all sizes.
Easy Access
We offer courses in two different locations: Birkebeineren Skistadion in Lillehammer & Hafjell.
Both starting points are easily accessible by public transport or by car. See more information further below. Start & length of the courses are adjusted to the bus schedule.
Important information!
To stay comfortable, we recommend dressing in layers that can be adjusted as needed. A waterproof outer layer, along with gloves, a hat, and warm socks, is essential for keeping warm while skiing.
Courses may be cancelled or rescheduled due to weather conditions.

The course lasts for about 2 to 2,5 hours, with plenty of time for equipment fitting before and snacks & drinks after the course.

To ensure personal attention and a great learning experience, the groups are small, with a maximum of 8 participants per instructor.
To provide the best experience, each course requires a minimum of 2 participants.

How to get there
We offer cross-country skiing courses in two different locations: Lillehammer & Hafjell. If you’re staying in Lillehammer, we recommend our course in Birkebeineren Skistadion. If you are staying in Hafjell or Øyer, we recommend our course there.
Both starting points are easily accessible by public transport or by car.
Lillehammer: Birkebeineren Skistadion
The course takes place in Birkebeineren Skistadion. Start & length of the course are adjusted to the bus schedule.
By Bus
From Lillehammer skysstasjon (train station) the bus leaves every hour. It’s a 10 minute bus drive and a 10 minute walk from the bus stop to the Skistadion.
Bus: B6 (Skihytta-Skurvbrua) or 500 (Nordseter)
Bus stops: Lillehammer skysstasjon → Birkebeineren Skistadion

By Car
Birkebeineren ski-stadion is easily accessible by car. There is a big parking lot next to the starting point of the course. Look after the SWIG poster as you get there.
Hafjell
The meeting point & start of the course is at the Hundersætervegen P-plass next to Ilsetra. Start & length of the course are adjusted to the bus schedule.
By Bus
From the bus stop Nermo in Hafjell the bus leaves approx. every 2 hours. The bus ride takes about 15-20 minutes.
